A wonderful visit to the English Heritage archaeological store at Dover Castle. With thanks to Curator Jo Gray, we found Skeleton 19, which gives us evidence which links the site to deaf and disability history. With support from the Maison Dieu Museum Trust, we share these images with you.

The remains were uncovered in the site of the former hospital cemetery and show that this male, who lived during the 18th Century, would have only been able to use his left arm due to the injury to his right arm and the disease in his hips. It is highly likely that he received care here.

Another idea was that the skeletons were the lost remains of the doomed Kashmir warrior Zogawar Singh and his army, who had mysteriously disappeared without a trace while returning from Tibet.
