Mencap, Museum of Liverpool, Deaf Active Youth and more give good advice to the programme…
I’m enjoying setting up the History of Place project in Liverpool-recruiting members for the Volunteer Research and Archive Group, meeting project delivery partners, visiting the Royal School for the Blind, networking, exploring creative possibilities and approaching individuals and organisations about joining the Advisory Panel to support the project.
We have eight confirmed members (and counting!) of the VRAG group in Liverpool and I have plans to meet with a couple of potential members so I can answer any questions face-to-face. I met with Sarah Jones from Mencap in Liverpool and we have commissioned their members to identify ways to make the recruitment poster ‘Easy Read’ so that people feel like they can get involved. Ann Wade from DaDaFest also made some suggestions-she pointed out that the word ‘heritage’ may be a little scary to people who haven’t had an opportunity to engage in heritage before.
I’m always available to answer any questions about joining the VRAG or about the project in general (no question is too silly to ask)-by phone, e-mail or even face-to-face over a coffee. There is no pressure to get involved but it’s much better to make an informed decision if you ask questions and I don’t want you to miss out on being a part of a fantastic project. We also have a budget available to refund travel expenses and for access support.
I’ve met with our delivery partners the Royal School for the Blind (see my next blog entry to read more) and DaDaFest and i’m meeting with the Museum of Liverpool next week. Our delivery partners will form part of an Advisory Panel to act as a critical friend to the project and ensure all local networks and opportunities are realised. Our Liverpool Advisory panel also includes Miro Griffiths MBE from LJMU, Ian Duncan from Deaf Active Youth, Sarah Jones from Mencap Liverpool and Ticky Lowe, Access to Heritage (among many other things). The panel will also be joined by members of our VRAG.
