Description

This page from a daybook for January 3rd contains two quotations in neat handwriting:

"In the great hand of God I stand"
- which is unattributed, but is a quote from Banquo in Macbeth as he rejects the promises of the witches, designed to lure him to doom.

The second is:

"I only know I cannot drift
Beyond his love and care"
Whittier

This is a quote from 19th century poet John Greenleaf Whittier's 'The Eternal Goodness' which asserts the love of God in the face of suffering and regret for the past.
