We are making a digital game! We are running workshops to create the content for the game and we are looking for young people to be a part of these; to develop ideas, storylines, characters and more.

If you are aged 13-30, interested in gaming, media, history, storytelling, or want to learn new skills, come and be part of a groundbreaking project exploring history and disability. Come and work with a diverse group of Bristol young people and professional games makers and facilitators this spring.

The game will form an important part of Accentuate’s History of Place project. This is a nationally significant project exploring the lives of deaf and disabled people throughout history, in relation to heritage buildings. In Bristol we are focusing on The Guild Heritage in Old Market. As part of this project, we are conducting research and different creative elements, such as workshops and events.

The game will be inspired original archive material, by stories of people who attended the Guild and the local history of Bristol. The game will be accessible from the initial design and can be as creative as the team that leads it. The final game will be shown within the exhibition at M Shed and launched online.

I am currently recruiting young people to be part of the workshops. We are particularly encouraging deaf and disabled young people to apply. Different levels of experience are welcome, but the applicants must be ready to work with a diverse group. It is an exciting opportunity to learn new approaches and contribute ideas for an exciting and innovative game.

The dates for the first 5 workshops are:

Tuesday 21/03/2017- 7-9PM

Saturday 25/03/2017-12-3PM

Tuesday 28/03/2017-7-9PM

Saturday 01/04/2017-12-3PM

Tuesday 04/04/2017-7-9PM

With 2/3 more workshops to run after the Easter holidays.

They will be at the Station, Silver Street, near Broadmead in the centre of Bristol. You don’t have to attend every session and we can help out with access requirements and transport.

This is a great opportunity and I hope you can be involved. Please get in touch with grace.swordy@accentuateuk.org to sign up or ask to hear more.
